Maxim, Password Magic Word, of Pangu Shengong

Take kindness and benevolence as basis,
Take frankness and friendliness to heart;
Speak with reason, treat with courtesy,
Act with emotion, accomplish results.

This is the maxim of Pangu Shengong, the “password” to enter this discipline, and the key to open the gateway toward a healthier and happier future.

Take kindness and benevolence as basis,
Take frankness and friendliness to heart;

The core of the first line is the word “kindness.” Everybody and everything should be dealt with on the basis of kindness and benevolence. The result would be that one would rather be ill-treated by all the people in the world than ever be unkind to others; one should be strict with oneself but tolerant of others. The emphasis of the second line is love. Love originates from kindness; only when one is capable of giving divine love will one have a generous heart, which is also the necessary basis for universal love, or friendliness. If everyone in the world could act in accordance with these two lines, then all the disputes between peoples would be eliminated, and all evil thoughts and phenomena would also disappear, and human society would be able to enter into an utterly new realm. (The Path of Life, v1 ch31: “Wishing Everybody in the World to Become Kind, Benevolent, and Loving”)

Speak with reason, treat with courtesy,
Act with emotion, accomplish result.

Literally speaking, “speak with reason” means that, in speaking, we should apply the principle of kindness in how we are conducting ourselves, applying the broad principles of the universe. In trying to convey our feelings and opinions we should speak calmly and reasonably, withholding rudeness and anger.

“Treat with courtesy” means treating others with politeness and kindness.

“Act with emotion” means that we should communicate and, therefore, move others through sincerity.

“Accomplish results” means performing actions to the very best of our ability. This is one way to refine our hearts and souls.

The statements that are required to be recited at the beginning and at the end of practice make up the complete maxim of Pangu Shengong. The first half is: “Take kindness and benevolence as basis; take frankness and friendliness to heart.” This phrase is meant as a guide for behavior and an aim of our life; as a general principle, it gives direction. In order to approach this goal, we employ the last half of the maxim: “Speak with reason, treat with courtesy; act with emotion, accomplish results,” as a framework and to measure how well we have applied the first portion of the maxim. In fact, the last half of the maxim represents the requirements in more detail, as well as the method to achieve them.

When we learn and practice Pangu Shengong, the most important thing is to comprehend the philosophy; understanding is more important than doing the physical qigong practice. The passwords are the core of the PGSG philosophy, representing the most essential element of the relationship between human beings and nature, and between humans and humans.

Master Ou Wen Wei wishes his students to learn kindness, to learn to be kind to others. Moreover, Master Ou wishes his students to examine whether they gain deeper understanding of the concept of kindness every day through their daily PGSG practice, and to examine whether they follow the passwords in conducting themselves to be nice people. (Pan Gu Mystical Qigong, p95)

Thus, this maxim contains “magic power”. Sit down with your palms up, resting on your lap, say the maxim in your mind slowly, repeat it once, then close your eyes to say it the third time. You may begin to feel the energy coming in through your palms… A lot of practitioners have been using these words to achieve instant calmness and pain relief.

As an efficient means of Qi cultivation, Master Ou suggests that we sit calmly and quietly, and recite the maxim of his Qigong Form, Pangu Shengong, three times: “Take Kindness and Benevolence as Basis, Take Frankness and Friendliness to Heart. Speak with Reason, Treat with Courtesy, Act with Emotion, Accomplish Results.” Imagine, then, that a powerful life force forms within your chest. Continue to recite the above phrases as you visualize this life force expanding and radiating to all parts of your body, for about five minutes each time. This may be done sitting, standing, or lying down.
