The Mid-Autumn Moon

Lyrics by Su, Shi
Music by Ou, Wen Wei

When will the bright full moon appear?
With a wine in hand, I ask the sky above.
In the palaces in heaven, what year is tonight?
I would like to ride the wind and fly to my home in heaven.
Yet, I’m afraid that these Palaces made from jade, would be too cold for me to handle.
Only being able to dance with my lonely shadow above, I’d rather remain on earth.
The moon rounds the vermilion tower,
Stoops to silk-pad doors,
Shines on the sleepless.
One should not complain about why the moon is often full upon farewell.
People experience sorrow, joy, separation, and reunion.
The moon may be dim or bright, full or crescent.
There has been nothing perfect since the olden days.
Let’s wish that
We live long and healthy, and
Appreciate the beautiful full moon though thousands of miles apart.
